Gate River Run ------Registration Complete
I've been thinking about running the 15K River Run ever since I heard of it last year. Something about seeing the marathon runners going past my house this morning sparked me into action. Ten minutes later I was registered. I'm not really that interested in the race part all that much, my goal is to finish under 1:35 minutes. I am looking forward to running over the Hart and Main Street Bridges and being with 18,000+ people all interested in the same thing. I find it a bit interesting that on March 14th 5 years ago I was Starting my hike of the Appalachian Trail. Time sure does fly........ Come out and join me, or just wish me good luck on March 14th.

Cyanotype... Copy paper VS. Transparency Negative
I recently received some UV yellowed ink jet transparency film. The first image was made with a transparency at a 5 min exposure. The second was made with a copy paper negative exposed for 35 mins. I really like the quickness and detail of the transparency film, but for some reason the copy paper's softness wins my vote. I love how some of the texture and pulp variations actually show up in the final print. I also seem to be getting better mid range values with the copy paper(see the log) I'm still working on ways to get the mid range values to come out better. Ive been searching the net and you tube but everybody seems to be using negatives from a 4x5 camera. I want to keep it simple.

Cyanotype Success
As I washed the excess sensitiser of my cheep drawing paper and watched this image appear today, I felt that same surge of excitement going through my blood that I felt the first time I developed my own black and white photo. Sure it's not perfect-the cheap paper ripped, there is not a strong dark value, and its slightly out of focus, but it is a cyanotype. The real success remains that it is something that I can repeat in a classroom setting on a shoe-string budget. My kind of project! For a negative I used a photo of my shadow on Mt. Rainier printed on cheap copy paper. The exposure here was 25 mins at around 9 this morning so it was not getting full sun. I can't wait to do this with the kids!!!!

Summer '09'
I know its only January, but soon it will be 2015 as time does fly. I'm getting so excited for the weather to warm and the adventures to begin. Above is some old school photos of my friends and I in the Boundary Waters. It will not be long from now when my Mother and I return 10 years from when I was there last........ Who knew that my love of the outdoors would grow so much from one single trip?????????
